For household members under age 5, HWCARMCIR reports the circumference of the child's upper arm in millimeters. Dividing HWCARMCIR by 10 yields the child's measured arm circumference in centimeters.
IPUMS-DHS has not recoded any numeric values in HWCARMCIR. However, some values may be outside of a plausible range for a child's arm circumference. Researchers are encouraged to set upper and lower bounds to reflect a plausible range.
