Definition
HWMBPCHEWREC indicates whether the male household member chewed snuff or otherwise consumed tobacco in the 30 minutes before the first blood pressure measurement. Tobacco use can lead to temporarily raised blood pressure levels, although the levels typically return to the individual's normal level 20-30 minutes after tobacco use. In general, individuals are advised not to chew tobacco for 30 minutes prior to a blood pressure measurement.
