Definition
For usual household residents born outside the household interview location, MIGRANTYPE reports the type of place (urban, rural, or abroad) the person lived prior to moving to their current place of residence.
To collect the information in MIGRANTYPE, interviewers asked an open-ended question, "From where did (NAME) move to this village/city (the last time)?" Respondents answered with a place name, and the DHS Program classified those responses into the broad categories of urban, rural, or abroad.
