    The survey is designed to provide benchmark data on:

    • Inventory of farm implements and machinery
    • Cost of new buildings, works and farm improvements
    • Inventory of cattle, other livestock and quantities and values of livestock inputs
    • Cultivated areas and cropping patterns
    • Fertilizers and other crop inputs
    • Yield estimate
    • Persons living and working on holdings
    • Credits and loans facilities
    • Transport costs and fuel use on farm holdings

    The survey is a muli-stage sample survey with probability proportional to size.

    The AgLS 2012 used a standard questionnaire designed over a long period of time with minor changes made to dates and season periods.

    Supervision

    Each enumerator falls under a team leader who reports to a Provincial Supervisor and ultimately to a National Supervisor.
    Data Collection Notes

    Training of enumerators was conducted, and a pre-testing of the questionnaires was done before the actual data collection. Quality control checks were done by spot checks and interview observation.

    The standard questionnaire was administered to different agricultural sectors, including small farms (A1), large farms (A2), small-scale commercial farms, large-scale commercial farms, communal lands, cooperatives, and former cooperatives.

    Data Editing

    Data editing started from the field, with each enumerator editing his/her questionnaires and the team leader further subjected the questionnaires for further editing. The questionnaires also underwent office editing.
