Abstract
This paper shows that developmental achievements vary consistently over the economic, political, social and cultural domains, and that consequently countries and world regions have not become more similar. Furthermore, within-world region variation is larger than between-world region variation in the four domains of development. Nevertheless, world cultural regions have significant explanatory power for individuals’ attitudes, greater than developmental and socio-demographic control variables. Regarding the effect of migration on people’s values, it seems that migrants tend to adopt the values of the receiving society as an instrumental response to better adapt to their new social environment.
