Abstract
This study investigates if the economic growth in Vietnam during 2002-2010 has been pro-poor. It further analyzes the regional perspectives of this growth. The methods of analysis have been the observing of the development of poverty reduction in Vietnam and applying regression analysis on income data collected from the 2010 Vietnamese household living standard survey. Comparing income growth rates of the poor with the average income growth rate of all, the empirical results show that the income growth of the former has been lower. This shows that there has not been pro-poor growth on the national or regional level. There have been considerable regional variations in the difference between the income growth of poor compared to the average income growth. Although there has not been any observable pro-poor growth in Vietnam except in certain provinces, the poor have benefited by high increases in income and decreasing poverty.
