Abstract | Maharashtra is among the richest states in India but balanced regional development is important for the fullest realisation of a region’s potential so that the benefits of overall economic growth are shared by the inhabitants of the region. Farmers’ suicides are more in Vidarbha region. Reason behind this is mainly unbalanced development of regions. The fruits of industrial development have not been equitably distributed spatially which resulted in the concentration of industries and establishment of units without taking the needs, linkages and levels of development of different regions into consideration. It is observed that, despite an abundant research on the entrepreneurship, studies on the entrepreneurship in agricultural sector as an effective tool for development of Maharashtra regions are less. This research analyses the relation between entrepreneurship enhancement in agricultural sector and development of regions of Maharashtra. Given the importance of high quality entrepreneurship for development it seems that increasing the quality of entrepreneurship should be the main focus of policy measures. Entrepreneurship has in the past decade received a prominent position in economic theory, as it is increasingly recognised that the entrepreneurship plays a critical role in development of regions. India’s vision of emerging as an economic power in the 21st century can be realized through the development of the regions. |
