Abstract |
The present paper is an attempt to analyse the district wise performance of National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS) in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Agriculture in Marathwada heavily depends on uncertain rain and weather conditions, as such the farmers are more prone to crops related risk. The other risks they experience are related to yields, fair prices, quality of the produce, marketing of the product etc. Agriculture insurance is considered and important mechanism to effectively mitigate the risk of natural perils in farm production and has resulted in the evolution and improvement in the crop insurance programme over the years. According to statistical data of farmers covered under NAIS in Marathwada region (2000 -10) showed the dismal performance of National Agriculture Insurance Scheme. |
