Abstract
A ‘top-down’ approach which links simulation results from a Computable General
Equilibrium (CGE) model to household survey data is used to evaluate the impact of
trade liberalization on poverty and income distribution in Thailand. A CGE model is
calibrated to a Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) of Thailand. The results suggest that the
manufacturing sector’s output expands after trade liberalization, while the output of the
agricultural sector declines. The results also suggest that poverty declines after trade
liberalization.
