This article reviews the processes by which climate change influences human development. Its original
contribution lies on a proposed structure to classify and characterize the potential impacts of climate change on
different dimensions such as health, education, security, livelihoods, cultural values and social relations. The
analysis suggests direct and indirect relations, as well as mechanisms that link components of the climate and well
being, which are the natural resources of water, soil and biodiversity and ecosystem services. This study is based on
the vision of human development as characterized by the work of Amartya Sen.
