Abstract |
The indigenous medicinal plants used by the baiga tribes of north Bastar area of Chhattisgarh state are described here in the present paper. The baigas are the traditional healers of the region who cures various ailments using their spiritual spirits and knowledge of herbal medicines. People of tribal area mostly rely on herbal medicines for curing various diseases including gynecological disorders. Tribal are not frequent to Government doctors for their treatment due to shyness, illiteracy and lack of awareness. A few patients were observed during the medication and the traditional healers were ask for the healing practices they inherited. The disease, local names, parts used and method of herbal preparation were documented. A field survey along with the baiga was also done to gather the plant material in few places. Herbal drug development with these plant materials will be a gain to the traditional knowledge of this nation |
