Abstract
The article analizes the social change lived by the highland mayan people since the last 50 years. Using the concept of transborder communities, the author outlines the crossing of three borders: 1) the first one is a symbolic border, which was crossed when the maya peasents accepted the Protestantism and the Catholic Mission; 2) the second border is referred to the massive migration of the mayan peasants to the city of San Cristóbal; 3) the last one is the State border of Mexico, which has been crossed by the mayan since the 90's, in order to look for a job in the United States.
