At present, by South Asia we mean those countries which are the members of SAARC and it is consisting of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, and Afghanistan. Once most of the countries of this region were under the British colony and ruled for about 200 years and more before their independence. Notwithstanding once this whole region is known as India and ruled by various Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim rulers, now it is divided into different parts and emerged as different new nation states. Therefore countries of this region have a lot in common in terms of their political, economic and social conditions.
