Abstract
The paper highlights the salient features of the scheme named Integrating Persons with Disabilities into the Mainstream of Technical and Vocational Education. This scheme is implemented in the polytechnic colleges in southern region in India for training the Persons with Disabilities (PWD). Persons with Disabilities constitute around one tenth of the total population of our country. Educating and training of PWDs is indeed a noble activity, which require selfless service and commitment. If the differently abled students were educated and employed, then they will not be considered as burden to the society.
Integrating Persons with Disabilities into the Mainstream of Technical and Vocational Education scheme is introduced to train the differently abled students in the technical institution by Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), New Delhi. The differently abled students were given both formal and non formal training in the Polytechnics Colleges in India. The success of the scheme would create most satisfaction in all the persons connected with the scheme and thus will be helpful in building a strong nation.
