Abstract
The population diversity has been object of study in the economic fíeld due to its
relevance in the process of the public policies concerning economic growth. Two
population diversity measures are created: the ethno-linguistic fractionalization index and
the migratory diversity index, for each municipality of México to estímate its impact on
the regional economic growth. It is based on the model proposed by Alesina, Harnoss &
Rapoport (2013) for the years 2000 and 2010. The results show that birthplace diversity
has a positive impact in the total gross product growth, whereas ethno-linguistic
fractionalization has a negative impact in local growth.
