Abstract
With zero hour, July 1, 1964, as the reference time, the total population of China is 723,070,269. The total population of the 28 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions (Tianjin Municipality was part of Hebei Province then) and the servicemen of the armed forces is 694,581,759. Among these, males number 356,517,011, accounting for 51.33 percent; females 338,064,748, accounting for 48.67 percent. The population of the compatriots of Taiwan Province and Xianggang and Aomen regions and overseas Chinese is estimated to be 28,488,520.
