Abstract
This paper examines mortality trends among the three main ethnic groups in Peninsular Malaysia, namely; the
Malays, Chinese and Indians. Mortality trends are based on the Crude Death Rate (CDR), and Infant Mortality
Rate (IMR). Both CDR and IMR have an inverse relationship with the trend in Life Expectancy at Birth (LEB).
The trend of all three mortality indexes, the crude death rate, infant mortality rate and life expectancy at birth
among men are studied starting from 1940’s until the present time.
