Abstract
Oil wealth has transformed Libya, a desertic and sparsely populated country, bringing dramatic demographic changes. Population has become even more polarized upon the two major cities, Tripoli and Benghazi. The need to import a growing number of foreign workers has further accentuated this concentration of population. Consequently the Libyan government is beginning to develop planning policies aimed at reshaping the spatial distribution of the country's population.
