Abstract
Patterns of internal migration from rural areas to the 17 major towns in Ethiopia are examined with the aim of determining the most important streams of migration, changes in migration over time, and sex and age characteristics of migrants. Particular attention is given to the situation in the capital city of Addis Ababa. Data are taken from a 1978 manpower and housing survey for the 17 towns, as well as from a 1967 population sample survey and a 1978 demographic survey, both concerning Addis Ababa.
