Portuguese language in East Timor is the official language of the country since 2002
constitution, though difficulties on teaching remains at present time, due to several facts. The
present paper will analyze Portuguese language historical background in East Timor, altogether
with current linguistics situation of Portuguese language and teaching to identify Portuguese
language variants spoken in East Timor, the teaching difficulties and the factors that cause
them.
