Abstract | This article aims to reflect on the representations that the term lusofonia has incorporated till today, and will attempt to analyze its course (s) in a troubled trip in which you have discovered voices, which, somehow, are looking for a point of intersection of the complex identity, cultural and linguistic concepts that the term tends to mystify. Timor-Leste is the latest country where Portuguese is the official language to join the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, consequently (re) integrating the “Lusophone world” reborn in the era of globalization, after 24 years of violent cultural and linguistic extermination. Timor-Leste, the nation, is claiming what it considers rightfully hers due to a historical and common past: the Portuguese language and along with it, the reinvention of her identity. This country in rebirth is seeking reintegration into a space that was once hers, rejoining a history that was once hers, along with her citizens retrieving memories in a language that has already belonged to them. In a country where the words beginning with “re” have a special meaning and rebuilding is the watchword, the reintroduction of Portuguese language comes to light, through which everything else comes. The historical gap of 24 years is for many, and not rarely ignored, creating the illusion that we are continuing a process and not to rebuilding it from scratch. New technologies, free circulation, economic, academic and social opportunities give us a completely new and different perspective of the importance of a language nowadays. The question then arises which can also be interpreted as a true challenge – which lusofonia (lusofonias) can approach, respecting memories, specificities and diverse cultures which are so geographically dispersed, materializing in reality a project that today, satisfies all who share a past, a present and a wish for a future linked to the Portuguese language? |
