Abstract
The study adjustment strategies to flood hazard, has the aim of eliciting vital information on flood hazard adjustment
strategies from occupants of flood prone areas in the Port Harcourt city. Using the questionnaire approach, and simple
randomization techniques; four hundred duly returned questionnaire were analysed using tables and simple percentages.
The result shows a spatial interaction between the perception, socio economic status and adjustment strategies to flood hazard
among occupants of flood prone areas of Port Harcourt. The adjustment strategies used include raised pavement, elevated
DPC level, use of Foot Bridge and sand filling of premises. This study concludes that the spatial behavioural outlook may
have been modified by the socio economic status of respondents looking at the cost implications of each adjustment strategy.
