Abstract
The study examined the impact of exercise on the health and
well-being of older persons. Data was collected through individual-based
questionnaire and multi-stage sampling procedure was
used to select elderly persons in Ojo LGA of Lagos State, Nigeria. In
all, 242 respondents were interviewed. Face-to-face interviews were
therefore conducted. Simple statistics was used to examine the
relationship between the variables. The study revealed that elderly
persons reported cases of medical challenges. It was also found that
even though most of them are not involve in exercises, they still
expressed its importance in good health and over all well-being of
older persons. The study therefore concludes that most of the aged
suffer from coronary heart disease (CHD), Strokes, Type II diabetes,
Obesity, Hypertension, colorectal cancer, Osteo-arthritis, Low
back pain, Weakness and headaches and these diseases and illnesses
can be controlled and prevented through exercise. For instance,
Jogging, Brisk walking, Running on treadmill, Dancing and
Riding on a bicycle ego meter.
