Abstract
Nowadays the internet has gained a paramount importance in the education arena. There are
numerous studies done in other parts of the globe regarding the impact of the internet on
academic performance unlike Bhutan. So, descriptively quantitative method was used to study
the impact of the internet on academic performance of the Bhutanese students. In total 154
participants from three academic institutions took part in the study. Results indicated that only
academic oriented internet utilization contributes to the better academic performance with the
significance value 0.000 while social and recreational function of the internet would hinder the
achievement of better academic result. Also, there were difference between the internet use and
gender, the internet use and age groups and the internet use and institutions in Bhutan.
