Abstract
The purpose of the study was to analyze the evolution of poverty by UBN in Ecuador
between 2008 and 2015. Poverty by UBN is a direct and multidimensional method that
reflects lack of satisfaction of basic needs. The present research, based on the ENEMDU,
showed a decrease in national poverty indicators, mainly explained by education investment.
The factors that influence poverty reduction are industrialization, proportion of urban
areas, State Budget accrued, government and household consumption and access to
employment. In contrast, poor households are more prone to malnutrition and tend to have
more children and elder population; additionally, afro-ecuadorians and montubios constitute
the most vulnerable population. Public policy guidelines focused on the improvement in
access to basic needs and on household materials. General recommendations focused on
extending data study for more years in order to splice series and apply economic models with
quality data to reinforce proposed ideas.
