The present study aims to analyze whether or not employment influences local
economic development in the canton of Riobamba, it is based on bibliographical and
field methodology using a qualitative and quantitative approach, with three levels:
exploratory, descriptive and correlational. From the information obtained it can be
determined that the two study variables seek to reactivate and strengthen these
sectors of society, with respect to improving and increasing the sources of
employment for citizens, taking into consideration the decrease in labor because of
different factors that were analyzed in the investigation. A survey was done of the
economically active population to determine the causes and consequences of
employment in local economic development, with the respective interpretations and
analyses. In order to achieve a better future through the implementation of action
plans that have the objective of promoting economic growth and local progress, with
the proposal of the local economic development agenda having plans designed to
jointly Interact with the generation of enterprise, and the strengthening of micro and
small productive units under the power of local government.
