The intention of this study was to analyze the poverty conditions in the households of the
department of Huila in the years 2008-2011-2014. Taking the statistical data provided by the
National Department of Statistics - DANE, in its new methodology defined by the Mission for
the splice of the series of employment, poverty and inequality - MESEP, through a
multidimensional approach and the application of a broad Range of variables, with a Probit
econometric model.
One of the conclusions of the study is the considerable reduction of poverty during the period
analyzed, by approximately 12 percentage points, considering education as an important factor,
during the analyzed years 2008, 2011 and 2014 shows that one more year of education , Reduces
the probability of being poor at 1.67%. However, a considerable gap is identified between the
urban and rural sectors, the latter being the one most likely to be poor. It is therefore
recommended to generate state policies that direct their attention to the most vulnerable
population in the Department of Huila.
