Abstract | The purpose of this study was to identify what influencing male participation in medical male circumcision as preventive intervention for HIV transmission in Windhoek, Namibia and make recommendations, according to the findings, on how circumcision mobilization can be improved in Windhoek, Khomas Namibia. A descriptive cross-sectional study was used to identify factors contributing men not participating in the MC services. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire administered with 35 participants. SPSS was used to analyze and interpret the data. The main objective of the study was to identify factors contributing to decision of whether to circumcise or not medical male circumcision Windhoek city. The study revealed that traditional beliefs and norms on circumcision , low knowledge on male circumcision , Distance to the health centre where MC services rendered and pain are major factors contributing to men not participating in MC services. It further revealed that community, patients and health care workers are the major determinants in MC programs. Recommendations were made and the researcher is urging the government to increase fund raising activities in order to make MC services free and available to all heath centres countrywide. |
