Abstract
In developing countries like Nepal the rate of women participation in various economic
activities plays a significance role in sustainable economic development. If we observe
the political and development scenario in couple of decade instability and low as well as
unsustainable economic growth be the main features of Nepal. Around 400,000 labour
force are introducing into labour market each year in these days. Due to the lack of job
opportunities in formal sector the ultimate goal of people for employment be informal
sector. Women participation rate has been found high in informal sector. The information
show that their involvement in most of those activities which has high return with
investment flexibility compare to men engaged activities in this sector. Due to the lack
of sufficient information including income activities about women and men involvement
status in informal sector we are unable to suggest specific policy at national level.
However, this paper tries to explain about women participation status on the basis of
international classification some practices at local level in informal sector at Chitwan
district that will be useful for other districts and national level too. It is suggested that
there should be an informal sector base line survey which is needed to include all main
aspect of informal sector activities at national level for specific policy.
