| Abstract | Nepal is one of the nations enlisted in the list of Least Developed Countries (UNDP 2015) and, according to the UNDP Human Development Index Nepal is ranked number 145. The rural population is above 80 %, two thirds of the working population is engaged in agriculture and the sector contributes approximately one third of the GDP (Dept. of Agriculture Nepal 2015). Marginalization of ethnic groups and poverty are common in rural regions of Nepal, leading to out-migration. Productive members of rural households frequently have to work abroad to make ends meet. In 2013 remittance comprised 29 % of Nepals GDP (The World Bank 2015). |
