Abstract
The expanding rates of urbanization in African cities
mean that the study of urban and personal daily mobility
is acquiring a special importance. This is because of the
socio-environmental and economic impacts of the model
of mobility, and because of its relationship with the
accessibility of opportunities that the metropolis offers
to citizens. In general, mobility studies in African cities
identify it as an unsustainable model.
In this paper, a detailed SWOT analysis (Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) is carried out on
the feasibility for the city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to
advance towards Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUM). In
this sense, the autochthonous institutional framework and
the institutional measures of external origin are taken into
account. The study identifies five strategies based on the
SWOT analysis that may serve the stakeholders to carry
out future planning of SUM.
