Abstract
Levels of childbearing remain high in the Comoros, with the average woman having more than five births during her reproductive years. Actual fertility exceeds wanted fertility by 1.4 births, and one in three married women say they want no more children. According to the 1996 Comoros Demographic and Health Survey (CDHS), however, only about one in five practice contraception, despite near universal knowledge of family planning.
