Abstract
The Simple Poverty Scorecard® uses ten low-cost indicators from Tanzania’s 2011/12
Household Budget Survey to estimate the likelihood that a household has consumption below
a given poverty line. Field workers can collect responses in about ten minutes. Accuracy is
reported for a range of poverty lines. The scorecard is a practical way for pro-poor programs
in Tanzania to measure poverty rates, to track changes in poverty rates over time, and to
segment clients for targeted services.
