Abstract
To what extent can NSS Consumer Expenditure Survey Data be used to estimate district level poverty ratios? Drawing on an NSSO evaluation, this paper applies the estimation procedure of the NSS 55th round on variables for monthly household consumer expenditure and household size to obtain district level estimates, and shows that it is feasible to derive valid distributions for a majority of districts on the basis of Relative Standard Errors (RSE) criteria.
