Abstract
Objetivo:
Conocer la situación nutricional de los ingresantes del año 2002 a una Universidad Privada.
Material y métodos:
Se estudió 722 personas comprendidas entre los 16 a 19 años. El 54,6% correspondió al género masculino. Todos fueron pesados y tallados calculándose el Índice de Masa Corporal (IMC) (peso/talla2). Con fines del diagnóstico nutricional se utilizó la clasificación percentilar de Must et.al., con los siguientes criterios diagnósticos: < 5, entre 5 y 15, 15 y 85, 85 y 95 y > del 95 percentil para identificar el déficit, bajo peso, normal, sobrepeso y obesidad respectivamente. Asimismo se dosó en sangre, la hemoglobina y para el diagnóstico de anemia nutricional, el nivel, en el género femenino fue por debajo de 12 g/dl y en el masculino 13 g/dl para la población hasta los 18 años y de 14 g/dl para los de 19 años.
Resultados:
El sobrepeso y la obesidad está presente en el género femenino (13,4 y 2,1%) y en el masculino (14,7 y 6,1%) respectivamente. El mayor problema nutricional que presenta la población estudiada es la anemia nutricional, destacando una prevalencia del 76,4% en mujeres y un 56,7% en varones. Llama la atención, la presencia de anemia en la población con sobrepeso (59%) y obesidad (58,1%).

Conclusiones: La anemia nutricional es el problema que más afecta a un gran número de la población estudiada y un porcentaje importante también presenta sobrepeso y obesidad.

Objective: To know the nutritional situation of the entry students admitted in the year 2002 in a private university.
Material and methods: Seven hundred twenty two people between the ages of 16 and 19 were studied. 54.6% belonged to the male gender. All the students had been weighed and measured estimating the Body Mass Index (BMI) (weight/height 2). With regards to nutritional diagnosis the Must et.al., percentile classification was used with the following diagnostic criteria: < 5, between 5 and 15, 15 and 85, 85 and 95 and > from the 95 percentile. To identify the deficit, low weight, normal, overweight, and obesity respectively. Likewise, the hemoglobin was dosed in the blood, and for the diagnosis of nutritional anemia, the level in the female gender was below 12 g/dl, and in the male 13 g/dl for the population up to 18 years of age, and of 14 g/dl for the population of 19.
Results:
Overweight and obesity are present in the female gender (13.4 and 2.1%) and in the male gender (14,7 and 6,1%) respectively. The major nutritional problem that is present in the studied population is nutritional anemia, standing out with a prevalence of 76.4% in women and a 56,7 in men. What calls one’s attention is the presence of anemia in a population with (59%) overweight and (58.1%) obesity.
Conclusions:
Nutritional anemia is the problem that affects a great number of the population studied the most, and an important percentage also presents overweight and obesity. . A great number of the population whom has been studied and an important percentile also presents overweight and obesity.
