Abstract
The pace of marginalization of rural people, women, tribals, dalits, etc has accelerated with the adoption of structural adjustment programmes in many countries. If we are to assess its impact in the coming times, we need to be aware of the deterioration in their health and welfare status, already becoming visible. Women are especially affected by these policies given that their health status has shown little improvement in recent decades.
