Abstract
The reliability of fertility preference data for Bangladesh is examined based on an analysis of data from the 1975-1976 Bangladesh Fertility Survey. Attention is given to "the degree of specificity and internal consistency of stated desired family size with other preference measures, ...individual variation in stated desired family size in order to assess the influence of societal norm, ...the influence of rationalization of achieved family size in stating desired family size, ...[and] the behavioural consistency of desired family size in terms of contraceptive knowledge, practice and intention to use contraception in future....On the whole there do not seem to be serious quality deficiencies which render the data on desired family sizes unusable for any meaningful analysis." - See more at: http://www.popline.org/node/357399#sthash.wgnZxeTs.dpuf
