Abstract
Migration is the spatial mobility of a person from one place to another for at least six month. Internal migration is the mobility of a person one place to another place within the same national boundary. Among the total migrant respondents male constitutes 51.11 percent and female 48.88. Among the 15 non-migrant respondent 60 percent, are male and 40 percent are female.66.66 percent migrant’s respondents are married, 31.11% are single and 2.22% widow. Among the 15 non-migrants, 73.33% are married and 26.66%are unmarried. Before migration 40% in agricultural 8.88 % business 8.88% government services and 8.88 percent private sectors.11.11 percent studying and training. Likewise 8.8 percent were the wage basis labors and the same percentage of women was housewife and 6.66 percent respondents reported others non-states. Among the total sampled migrant 33.33% Brahmin, 22.22 chretri, 15.55% Newar, 24% Janajati, 2.22% were non-states. In the case of non-migrants, Brahmin33.33percentage, 26.66% Newar, 20% Janajati and 20% chretri.
Among the total migrants, 91.11% literate and 8.88 % were illiterate. In the case of the non-migrants, 15 sampled 86.66% were literate and other remaining 13.33 illiterate.
The major push factors were unemployment 36%, lack of higher studies facilities 20 %, business failure 16 %, not sufficient land 13 % and 4% conflict and 2% natural calamities The major pull factors were Employment 33% business 20%, higher studies 15.55%, marriage 8.88%, Presence of relatives and friends 6.66%, 6.66% providing boarding education for their children, 888% urban facilities and urban life.
Among the total sampled migrants in 40 percent cases male had made decision to migrate, in cases 26.66 female had made decision to migrate, 22.22 percent of the migrants had made decision by spouse and 11.11 percent sons and daughter.
Among the 45 migrants respondents 31.11% had one room in destination place, 26.66% respondents had 2 rooms, 20% had 3 rooms ,15.55% had 4 rooms, and 6.66% have 5 and above no. of rooms.
Among the 45 sampled migrants 26.66% had faced unemployment problem, 20% separation from family, 15.55%very difficult to get daily need commodities, 12 sanitation problem, 13.33% social exclusion.Although these were respondent’s views, there could be other problems
Most of the migrants had come to Kathmandu valley from the surrounding districts. Like is Kavre, Dhading, Nuwakot, Sindhupalchock, Dolakha etc. On the Development region basis Central Development Region 46%, East Development Region 27%, Western Development Region16%, Mid Western Development Region 7% and Far Western Development Region 4%.
A working migrant teaching staff works 17 to 18 hours per day where as a non-migrants works 13 to 14 hours per day. Most migrants changed their occupation in the destination place from agriculture to non- agricultural sectors. Most of the migrants are educated
