Abstract
Measurement is a very familiar exercise in daily life. Perhaps without measurement, it is impossible to sustain in life andsociety. While measurements in sustainable development have provided insights to the contributions of various stakeholders, there have been growing concerns in setting measurement criteria, challenging measurement processes and the results obtained for further analyses and adopting correction mechanisms. Nevertheless measurements do provide the ambience to learn from past experiences, predict future course of action, benchmark with standards, evaluate and align with changing environment, correct the mistakes and even to celebrate good performances. Measurements in e-governance exist since introduction of this concept and have drawn attention of all stakeholders including civil society, bureaucrats and elected representatives. Despite having created pool of measurement models, standards, established processes for service ordination for e-governance various nations in the world are yet to yield desired results. This paper discusses evolution of global e-governance measurements and relates them to Indian context. The objective of this paper is to understand and appreciate the challenges in establishing egovernance measurement scenario for a nation like India.
