Abstract
The first form of human social life in a natural environment is in the village that has many natural,
environmental, economic, socio-cultural, historical and physical characteristics. Conversion of rural to urban areas without
proper contexts in addition to increasing public expenditure enhance the level of expectation of the residents of that settlement
and strengthens efforts to transform the country into town. Identifying favorable settlements, predicting the changes in these
areas and providing appropriate social, economic, physical and infrastructural contexts to convert these settlements to urban
areas attract private sector investment and cause the emergence of dynamic system without conventional hierarchy in
settlement. This new system has economic life and will be able to develop and achieve higher levels of settlement without the
need for public sector investment.The Purpose of this article is to investigate the economic and social effects of converting
rural to urban area of Lavandevil district located in the northwestern city of Astara in Guilan province. The main objective of
this study was to examine the economic and social effects of converting rural to urban. The research statistical population will
comprise Lavandevil residents. The research methodology is analytical-descriptive method and data were collected through
gathering information, library investigation, field observations, and questionnaires. Due to the size of the population and based
on the Cochran table, 374 questionnaires have been completed with simple random sampling.
The main results include:
1. The conversion of rural to urban area in Lavandevil district had economic and social impact somehow.
2. Lavandevil city failed to achieve all its goals in this conversion so far.
3. Conversion of Lavandevil to city has had a considerable impact on population stabilization and prevents from the migration.
4. Satisfaction of the inhabitants about this conversion and their life situation is not very desirable.
