Abstract
Last five decades have witnessed the feminization of migration in Odisha .The marriage migration involves uprooting of women
from their natal home a compulsion seldom shared by men. As a result of distressed male migration women feel both insecure and
subjugated in the absence of their men due to patriarchal conditioning . At the same time large number of widows and deserted
women have migrated not only for economic but for socio cultural reasons. Migration has become the sole factor for increasing
HIV infection of men and the unavoidable gender relation has made women and children much vulnerable. Census has failed to
encompass lesbians, gay, transgender, trafficked women and sex workers as migrants beyond the binary of gender disaggregated
data ; but they are the people who leave their houses for social non-acceptance at their native place.
