Abstract
Uganda’s Poverty Eradication Action Plan (PEAP) and the Millennium Development
Goals (MDGs) have put a lot of focus on the statistical systems that must produce
the data to monitor the PEAP and the MDGs indicators. The focus and direction of
the data requirements in Uganda has greatly evolved and prompts government and
other key stakeholders in the development process to establish a sustainable monitoring
system of interventions. The PEAP and the MDGs among other plans require
quality and comprehensive data for regular progress monitoring and review. Nationally
representative household surveys undertaken by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics
(UBOS) have contributed greatly to the policy debate and development in Uganda.
The paper provides the UBOS’s experience in meeting the various data demands
at the national and international levels through this survey programme..
