Abstract
Preliminary figures for the 1976 population census of Lesotho
were recently released by the Bureau of Statistics in Maseru. While these
figures are at the constituency level rather than the enumeration area level, a
general investigation of population change over the period 1966 to 1976 can
nevertheless be made. More detailed analyses will be carried out once enumeration
-area data becomes available. Summaries are here presented for national
and regional trends in population change, and evidence of regional differentiation
in such change is put forward. Specifically, analysis of the constituency
data suggests greater positive population change in the Lowlands relative
to other regions in the country.
