Abstract
We study the heterogeneity determinants in the worker flows to unemployment,
occupation and inactivity. In this way, analyze the characteristics that affect these worker
flows in the different Colombian cities. The worker flows are constructed using variables
of past labor for each individual, contained in the GEIH Colombian survey for 2008-2014
period. The paper attempt to understand the unemployment dynamic in the Colombian
cities, where factors like informality, industrial aggregation, and others are varying inside
the country. The main results suggest that a higher proportion of industry in the
employment is correlated with a bigger flow to the employment and smaller flow to
unemployment. On the other hand, higher proportion of informality is associated with a
greater flow to the unemployment.
