Abstract
With the dissolution of Yugoslavia there was also a change in the
status quo of the Balkans, as well as of Europe. Macedonia became an
independent state for the first time in the history of its people. With the
change of the status quo in the region, the major powers began to redraw
their interests towards the Balkans and Macedonia. The purpose of this
paper is to analyze the path of the Republic of Macedonia towards its
international recognition and affirmation, i.e., towards proving its
existence as an entity of international law. Namely, through comparative
analysis, synthesis and description, the authors of this paper intend to
explain the way a small country like Macedonia tries to walk along in
order to show the world that it has its own place in the anarchic structure
of international society.
