L'Enquête Démographique et de Santé 2001 est la troisième EDS réalisée au Mali après celles de 1987 et de 1995.

Pour assurer une bonne réalisation des objectifs de l'EDSM-III, une direction technique a été mise en place sous l'autorité d'un Directeur Général et d'un Directeur Technique, chacun assisté d'un adjoint, et de 8 cadres techniques qui avaient en charge la supervision générale de l'enquête
Les erreurs de mesure sont celles associées à la mise en œuvre de la collecte et de l'exploitation des données telles que l'omission de ménages sélectionnés, la mauvaise interprétation des questions de la part de l'enquêtrice ou de l'enquêtée, ou les erreurs de saisie des données. Bien que tout le possible ait été fait pour minimiser ce type d'erreur pendant la mise en œuvre de l'EDSM-III de 2001, il est difficile d'éviter et d'évaluer toutes les erreurs de mesure.
