Colombia Fueron excluidos del universo de la muestra el departamento de Caquetá y los Territorios Nacionales Continentales por sus difíciles vias de comunicación y por su bajísima densidad de población. De acuerdo al censo de población de 1985, las áreas que fueron excluidas representan menos del 3 por ciento de la población total. La encuesta abarcó a todos los miembros de la familia: todas las mujeres de 15 a 49 años en el hogar seleccionado. Sample survey data Las principales causas de pérdidas de muestra, tanto en la encuesta de hogar como para la individual fueron la ausencia de informante y en menor proporción el rechazo a dar información. Face-to-face El director de trabajo de campo tuvo oportunidad de visitar por lo menos 3 veces a cada equipo con excepción del grupo 4 cuya permanencia en la región de Bogotá fue mayor por lo cual estuvo supervisado por la Coordinadora de la Encuesta. En los cuadros III.l a III del Informe Final se presentan los errores de muestreo para las variables consideradas de mayor interés en la encuesta. El primer tipo de errores, como es sabido, se origina en la falta de cobertura de todas las mujeres seleccionadas, errores en el planteo de las preguntas y en la anotación de las respuestas, confusión o incapacidad de las mujeres para dar la información, errores de codificación o de procesamiento y situaciones similares. En el presente estudio se trató de reducir a un minimo este tipo de errores a traves de una serie de procedimientos tradicionales en las encuestas bien diseñadas y ejecutadas, como son: diseño cuidadoso y numerosas pruebas del cuestionario, buen adiestramiento de las entrevistadoras, supervisión intensa y permanente -por diversas vias- del trabajo de campo, supervisión apropiada en la etapa de codificación y procesamiento de los datos y limpieza cuidadosa del archivo. Los elementos de juicio disponible señalan que este tipo de errores se mantuvo dentro de márgenes razonables en la ENP-86 y que la calidad de los datos obtenidos es buena; por ello, en lo que sigue no se hará referencia mås a los errores de respuesta sino únicamente a los de muestreo. La muestra de mujeres estudiadas en la ENP-86 no es sino una de la gran cantidad de muestras del mismo tamaño que sería posible seleccionar de la población de interés utilizando el diseño empleado. Cada una de ellas habría dado resultados en alguna medida diferentes de los arrojados por la muestra usada. La variabilidad que se observaría entre todas las muestras posibles constituye el error de muestreo, el cual no se conoce pero es posible estimar a partir de los datos suministrados por la muestra realmente seleccionada.
