The first and second NCAs were conducted respectively in the years 1961/62 and 1971/72. Version 01: Microdata is not available. Agriculture & Rural Development Food (production, crisis) Conducted by the National Agriculture Census Project under the Central Bureau of Statistics, the Sample Census of Agriculture aimed at obtaining reliable estimates of most of the agricultural parameters at the district level (of Nepal). Its sample was designed (including the sample size) to meet this objective. The census was carried out in 1982. The reference period was a period of twelve consecutive months from 14th January 1981 to 13th January 1982. Nepal National Agriculture Holding The census coverd all operation agricultural holdings. For the census purpose, an operational holding consisted of all agricultural land operated, poultry birds or farm animals kept (with or without agricultural land) as one technical unit by one person alone or with the assistance of others irrespective of title, legal form and location. However, any institutional agriculture holdings were not covered in the NCA 1981/82. Sample survey data [ssd] The scope of Sample Census of Agriculture 1981/82 includes: 1. Number and Area of Holdings 2. Status of Land Tenure 3. Land Use 4. Area under Crops (Temporaray and Permanent as well) 5. Status of Irrigation, Use of Fertilizers, Practice of Improved Seeds and Pesticides 6. Number and kind of Cattle according to their Age and Sex 7. Number of Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Horses and other Animals by Age 8. Number of Poultry, Pigeons, Ducks and other Birds by Age 9. Number of Agricultural Implements 10. Farm Population by Age and Sex 11. Number and Area of Fish Ponds 12. Quantity of Fish Catch by Ponds and Paddy Fields National Agriculture Census Project team The sampling design for the census was that of a stratified two-stage random sampling. A district was taken as the stratum. From each of the 75 districts of the kingdom, 50 wards (a ward is an ultimate administrative unit) was selected by simple random procedure, without replacement. Within the selected wards, the lists of operational agricultural holdings were prepared and the holdings were classified in three categories as follows: (a) Holdings operating land equal to or less than 10 bighas (20 ropanies or 80 matomuris in the hilly and mountainous districts, (b) Holdings operation more than 10 bighas (20 ropanies or 80 matomuris in the hilly and mountainous districts), and (c) Holdings without land but having 2 or more productive animals (i.e., 2 or more heads of cattle/buffaloes or 5 or more sheep and/or goats), 20 poultry birds. All holdings of category (b) were enumerated, and among the holdings of categories (a), and (c) a 20 percent sample was selected systematically with a random start for enumeration. In total about 14 percent of the wards were included in the sample as first stage units, and around 83,000 agricultural holdings (of the total 2.6 million households) were enumerated as ultimate sample units. Face-to-face [f2f] Confidentiality of the respondents is guaranteed by Article 8 of Statistics Act 1958. Restriction on publication of information and details Any information or details relating to any person, family, firm or company, which have been supplied, obtained or prepared pursuant to Section 3 or Section 4 or Section 5 or Section 6 or Section 7 or any part of such information or details, shall not be disclosed or published directly except to the Director General or to any other officer of the Bureau without the written permission of the person or of his or her authorized representative supplying such information or details. For the purpose of institution of any suit under this Act, nothing mentioned in Sub-section (1) shall be deemed to bar the production of such information before any court.
