V1.2: Edited data, second version, for internal use only Lesotho National coverage Retail outlets The survey covers all selected retail outlets Sample survey data [ssd] The scope covers, Food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcohol and tobacco, clothing and footwear, housing, water, electricity, gas , furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house, health, transport, recreation and culture, education, restaurants and hotels and miscellaneous goods and services. Bureau of Statistics In Lesotho non-probability sampling is used. Prices are collected every month in twelve urban areas and about seventy selected rural areas by personal visits to the outlets. About 40000 price quotations are collected in about 800 outlets for about 350 commodity items. Face-to-face [f2f] Enumerators were accompanied by supervisors during data collection. CPI is usually calculated as the weighted average of the prices changes on the goods and services covered by the index. The weights are meant to reflect the relative importance of goods and services as measured by their shares in the total consumptions of households. The weight attached to each good or service determines the impact that its price change will have on the overall index. In practice, the weights usually refer to expenditures on consumption goods and services by households.
