Agricultural Census [ag/census]
The FAO has developed a monitoring system in 26 food crisis countries to better understand the impacts of various shocks on agricultural livelihoods, food security and local value chains. The Monitoring System consists of primary data collected from households on a periodic basis (more or less every four months, depending on seasonality). FAO launched the first DIEM-Monitoring household survey on 28 June 2022 to monitor agricultural livelihoods and food security in both rural and urban areas of Guatemala. Data collection continued until 3 August 2022. The random sample of 4,937 households was representative at the departmental level and targeted all 22 departments of Guatemala. The results of 20 departments have been presented due to inconsistencies identified in Escuintla and Suchitepéquez. For the GTM Round 1 household survey, a total of 4,937 households were interviewed. A two-stage sampling approach was employed to ensure representation at the departmental level across Guatemala, targeting all 22 departments. In the first stage, a sample size of 31 clusters per department was determined. Each cluster comprised eight households, totaling 248 households per department. The second stage involved systematic random sampling of households within each cluster. Due to data inconsistencies, results were only presented for 20 of the 22 departments, omitting Escuintla and Suchitepéquez. The survey used face-to-face interviews conducted from June 28 to August 3, 2022, as the sampling frame. For a comprehensive understanding of the sampling strategy, refer to the methodology document available in the data files and other resources section.
Observations were weighted for demographic population by province.
A link to the questionnaire has been provided in the documentation tab.
The dataset was anonymized using Statistical Disclosure methods by the Data in Emergencies Hub team and reviewed by the Office of Chief Statistician at FAO. All direct identifiers have been removed prior to data submission.
In addition, recoding and local suppressions were applied to ensure data confidentiality. Recoding was especially applied to variables, such as education and residence status.
